Dead Air Radio: Frequently Asked Questions
What is Dead Air?
Dead Air is a free internet radio station that plays Halloween music 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. You’ll hear spooky tracks, novelty songs, vintage recordings, and clips from horror movies and pop culture, plus original edits made by the station’s owner.
How do I listen?
Press play on the homepage at deadair.co, use the Live365 app for iOS or Android (search “Dead Air”), or ask a smart speaker: “Alexa, play Dead Air on LIVE365” (enable the LIVE365 skill first), “Hey Google, play Dead Air on TuneIn”, or “Siri, play Dead Air Radio on TuneIn.”
Is it free?
Yes. Dead Air is supported entirely by listener donations through Patreon and PayPal. Donors receive a sticker or a Crypt Coin as thanks.
Is Dead Air only on in October?
No. It started in 2012 as an October-only broadcast and has run year-round since 2016. October is when it’s busiest.
Are there ads?
The station plays a limited number of ads to help offset streaming and music licensing costs. But is commercial-free on Halloween. Some players, such as TuneIn on smart speakers and the Live365 player, can insert their own ads, which Dead Air doesn’t control.
Who runs Dead Air?
One person: a former broadcast radio professional with nearly 40 years in radio, who started the station because of a childhood love of Dr. Demento and a big collection of Halloween songs.
How do I request a song?
Email requests@deadair.co, join the Crypt Chat on the homepage, or leave a voice message with the on-site voice widget.
