About Dead Air - What is all this?Dead Air streams Halloween music 24/7/365, featuring spooky tracks, novelty songs, vintage recordings, and audio clips from horror movies and pop culture. Many of these are my own creations, as I enjoy editing and creating audio. The station is 100% listener-supported, and as long as it covers its operating expenses, I'll keep it going. While not many people listen to Halloween music year-round, SOME do, but most donations come in during the spooky season.

I loved listening to Dr. Demento as a kid. Recording Halloween songs from his show was a big part of my Halloween routine, as it was often the only place to find them. By adulthood, I had a substantial collection of Halloween music, starting with cassette recordings of Dr. Demento shows, then store-bought compilations, and later, a vast collection from the internet. By the time I started DeadAir.co, I had nearly a thousand songs. And no one to share them with.

Dead Air began in 2012 as an October-only project (The earliest email I found mentioning the October broadcasts was from October 2014, indicating it had been going on for a few years. So, 2012 seems like a fair estimate for the first broadcast.)

I work in broadcast radio and used to run an online streaming station for my non-Halloween music as a hobby. In 2012, I considered transforming my home Halloween decorations into a "Pirate Radio Station," combining a ghost pirate ship and a haunted pirate radio station. I planned to set up a spooky radio studio in my garage and play Halloween music through a neighborhood transmitter. Unfortunately, the idea never moved past the concept stage.

Except Dead Air.

It began as an illegal pirate radio broadcast that year during Halloween week, audible only to my half of town. It then moved online and took over my music stream each October, when I switched the format to full-time Halloween music. Listener numbers surged every year, then dropped off when I returned to my normal playlist on November 1st. It was fun and sufficient for a few years. Some core listeners urged me to keep it going year-round, which would require more time and money for licensing and bandwidth. Running a tiny station for a few friends is one thing; a full-time worldwide stream is another.

I agreed to try it. In 2016, I launched DeadAir.co with the goal of funding it out of my pocket for one year. If donations didn't cover the costs, I would revert to the October-only broadcasts.

Well, we're still here.

Dead Air Privacy PolicyI don't keep your info.
I don't share your info.
I don't want your info.
Just wanna play Halloween music.

If you send us a donation? Yeah, Paypal sends me your contact info so I can send you a sticker or Crypt Coin.
But I'm not gathering all of it to sell or do weird stuff with.

If somebody hacked us one day? They wouldn't find any of your personal information. They'd end up with 15 versions of Monster Mash, a bunch of empty candy wrappers, and an old latex mask that smells like pumpkin guts. Have fun with that, Mr. Robot.

Frankly? I'm flattered you think I have the time for that crap.
We're playing Halloween music. Not some dumb tech startup.

But fine. Here's the legal pablum....
